The realm of holograms most famously made its way into the world as a work of science fiction back in the revolutionary 1977 film, Star Wars: A New Hope. The 3D holographic avatars were accepted as a tool of the future, but fast forward 40 years – holograms have very much become mainstream.
Since the pandemic, technology within events has worked to blur the lines between the physical and the virtual with applications in hybrid technology being developed. However, the use of hologram technology has further revolutionised the way events are presented to audiences providing new ways to showcase products, services, or ideas in an innovative and captivating way.
Holograms are a work of illusion, almost like magic. Referred to as ‘Pepper’s Ghost’, its origin dates back to theatres in the late 1800’s using clever lighting and glass to create semi-transparent ghost-like figures on stage. The modern-day interpretation uses much the same method, recording and reproducing the interference pattern of light waves that are reflected off an object or scene to create stunning visual displays that seem to float in mid-air and can be viewed from any angle.
Most recently, Swedish pop Stars ABBA utilised the technology on a mass scale, creating a new ‘hologram’ concert where audiences could see the infamous band live once again for the first time since 1982. But the hologram technology can be fitted to any space and environment to add an extra layer of depth and dynamism, such as:
- Product Launches: Creating a hologram of the product, businesses can give attendees a 360-degree view of the product without the need for a physical model.
- Branding: Effective for businesses that want to create a memorable and unique brand experience for their customers.
- Education: Interactive educational displays allow attendees to explore complex concepts in a more engaging way. For example, a hologram of the human body can be used to teach anatomy, or a hologram of a city can be used to teach urban planning.
- Entertainment: Visually stunning entertainment displays that captivate audiences.
- Meetings: Bring your attendees into your meeting on a more realistic scale.
The Benefits?
- Futuristic and Captivating Visual – stand out from competitors and create a memorable brand experience.
- Interactive – attendees can maintain a more engaging experience as they learn more about the product or concept being presented in 3D form.
- Cost-Effective and environmentally friendly – create engaging displays without the need for shipping expensive physical models or props.
- Versatile – used in a wide range of applications.
By projecting something tangible and “real”, holograms create an immediate and striking impact. Digital content comes alive within immersive spaces, creating stand-out drama that tells a compelling story. Self-explanatory yet visually compelling, viewers can grasp complex content quickly and intuitively, whether packaged in small spaces or expanded to cover large floor areas and incorporating tangible physical elements.
